(TJV) A transgender migrant woman (Biological man) wanted by federal immigration authorities has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a 14-year-old boy in an East Harlem bathroom, sources told The NY Post.
The suspect, Nicol Suarez, 30, is accused of following the teen into the restroom of a bodega on Tuesday before attacking him. After the incident, the boy managed to flee and alert bystanders, who contacted the police.
Law enforcement officers apprehended Suarez the following day near the scene of the alleged assault. She has been charged with first-degree rape. Authorities revealed that Suarez was already wanted in New Jersey and Massachusetts, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had issued a detainer requesting her transfer into federal custody. However, details regarding the out-of-state charges were not immediately available.
The case has reignited debate over New York City’s sanctuary policies, with critics arguing that such protections prevent law enforcement from removing individuals with criminal records.
Prosecutors originally sought $500,000 bail and a $1.5 million bond for Suarez, but Judge Elizabeth Shamahs, a recent Democratic-elect, reduced it to $100,000 bail or a $250,000 bond, according to court records.
A law enforcement source expressed concern for the young victim, stating, “We talk a lot about protecting migrants, but what about this boy? His life is changed forever.”
