An illegal migrant from Ecuador has been arrested by the NYPD for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl after tying her and a boy together with their wrists in a Queens park. The suspect, wielding a machete, reportedly stole their cell phones before fleeing.

According to Fox News, the man was apprehended on Monday evening after neighbors recognized him from a wanted poster and restrained him until police arrived.

Fox News reported that he entered the US illegally in 2021, the year President Joe Biden reversed former President Trump’s immigration reforms on day one of his presidency.

The attack occurred on Thursday at Kissena Park, approximately three miles from Citi Field where the New York Mets play and near the site of the 1964 World’s Fair and the U.S. Open. The victim attends school in the neighborhood.

Police had offered a $10,000 reward in the case after obtaining surveillance video showing the suspect on a bicycle.

Following the rape, the teens ran across the street and called 911. They were taken to a hospital in stable condition.

Retired NYPD sergeant Joseph Giacalone, now a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, praised the police work, stating, “They got the drawings out of the suspect and his tattoo, and then were able to secure the surveillance photo and… some help from the public – but that’s how it’s supposed to work.”

The man, who has a tattoo of a horned animal with red eyes on his chest, has had several previous low-level offenses, including drinking in public and jumping subway fares.

The question of responsibility for his presence in the country remains unanswered.
