An arrest has been made in the brutal assault of an Orthodox man in Crown Heights on July 13 who was beaten in front of his five-year old child.
According to Crown Heights Shomrim Patrol, one suspect has been arrested for the assault.
“Breaking! One under arrest in the brutal assault of [Yossi Hershkop],” the organization said on Twitter. “Great work by our Volunteers in collaboration with the [NYPD 71st Precinct] detectives.”
Surveillance video of the incident, posted to Twitter by Crown Heights Shomrim, showed the assailants beating the man as he sat inside his car, causing significant injuries to his face.
After being hit more than ten times, the gang fled the scene.
The assailants alleged that Hershkop bumped a car behind him as he was parking, and that due to that they began to follow him as he looked for a parking space. Eventually they blocked his car and began attacking him while his young son was with him in the car, Yeshiva World News reported.
The suspect was arrested at his Brooklyn home at 9 p.m. on Thursday.
The day before, Hershkop had posted on Twitter about the impact the still-unsolved attack had on him and his son.
“I was attacked 2 weeks ago,” he tweeted. “No arrests have been made, despite the assailants’ vehicle having been seen all over the neighborhood. My son still has a lot of trauma from the incident & we now Uber instead of walk whenever we need to go out. How many others live in fear in NYC?!”
