Pro-Hamas Protesters Clash with NYPD During Chaotic Labor Day March in NYC

On Labor Day, an estimated 7,000 Pro-Hamas demonstrators took to the streets of New York City, with some participants waving Hamas flags while others ignited flares and smoke bombs. The protest began at Union Square and moved toward Washington Square Park, with tensions escalating as the NYPD struggled to maintain control. Some protesters forcefully pushed officers aside as the march progressed.

The demonstrators carried flags from Palestine, Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah, chanting slogans like “Free Palestine!” and “Resistance is justified when people are occupied.” Among the flags was that of Hezbollah, a Lebanese group known for its involvement in the conflict with Israel.

During the protest, tensions flared when a counter-protester displaying an Israeli flag was targeted by the crowd, with some demonstrators hurling insults and demanding the flag be removed. Another New Yorker who attempted to express opposition faced similar hostility. Law enforcement sources reported that four arrests were made during the event.

This protest is one of many that have erupted in response to Israel’s actions following the October 7 attack by Hamas, with demonstrations, including those on college campuses, having significant financial repercussions for corporations worldwide.
